docs: update client-side tracing and Edge Function CORS guides (#48924)
Updates the client-side tracing and Edge Function CORS docs for changes shipping in `@supabase/supabase-js` v2.112.3 (supabase/supabase-js#2603, supabase/supabase-js#2604). The tracing guide gains a vendor compatibility table (plain OpenTelemetry works as is, Sentry needs `propagateTraceparent: true`, Datadog RUM needs `allowedTracingUrls`), the new `respectSamplingDecision` semantics (non-sampled requests now carry `traceparent` only, so logs stay correlatable), a troubleshooting entry for the SDK's new propagator warning, and a note that browser calls to Edge Functions need the trace headers in the function's CORS allow-list. The CORS guide now states explicitly that trace headers are sent only when trace propagation is opted in (never by default), adds a table of when each SDK header is actually sent, and the hardcoded `corsHeaders` examples are updated to the full header list. Should merge after the v2.112.3 release is published, since it documents that version's behavior. <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Documentation** * Expanded CORS guidance with trace-propagation requirements and SDK version considerations. * Added browser and Edge Function setup guidance for client-side tracing. * Documented updated sampling behavior, advanced configuration, vendor setup examples, and troubleshooting. * **Bug Fixes** * Updated CORS configurations to allow retry and tracing headers required for supported requests. * Improved compatibility for browser requests that transmit distributed tracing context. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> --------- Co-authored-by: github-actions[bot] <41898282+github-actions[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

docs: updating Edge Functions error codes (#48767)
<!-- ccr-slack-attribution --> _Requested by **Kalleby Santos** · [Slack thread](https://supabase.slack.com/archives/C02KMRX22NR/p1785949561216739?thread_ts=1785949561.216739&cid=C02KMRX22NR)_ ## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## What kind of change does this PR introduce? Docs update. Adds two missing entries to the Edge Functions **Error codes** page (`apps/docs/content/guides/functions/error-codes.mdx`). Refs https://github.com/supabase/supabase/issues/47739 ## What is the current behavior? Neither `NOT_FOUND_FUNCTION_BLOB` nor `LOAD_FUNCTION_UNBUNDLING_ERROR` appears on the Error codes page. Someone who gets a 404 with `sb-error-code: NOT_FOUND_FUNCTION_BLOB` and searches the page finds nothing — and because the response body is the same `Requested function was not found` string that generic `NOT_FOUND` returns, the existing `NOT_FOUND` entry reads like it covers the case when it doesn't. ## What is the new behavior? Both codes are documented under `## Server Errors` with a cause and a remedy, in the page's existing `**Cause:**` / `**Solution:**` shape. - `NOT_FOUND_FUNCTION_BLOB` goes directly after `### NOT_FOUND`, since readers hitting it will scan for `NOT_FOUND` first. The cause explains the metadata/bundle version mismatch (concurrent or batched deploys double-incrementing the metadata version), notes that the message is identical to `NOT_FOUND` so the `sb-error-code` header is the distinguisher, and links the existing [Edge Function 404 error response](https://supabase.com/docs/guides/troubleshooting/edge-function-404-error-response) troubleshooting guide. Solution: redeploy with the latest CLI, avoid concurrent deploys of the same function, contact support to re-sync metadata if it persists. - `LOAD_FUNCTION_UNBUNDLING_ERROR` goes at the end, keeping the `LOAD_FUNCTION_*` cluster together. Cause: the bundle was fetched but decompression/parsing failed, which points at a corrupt or partially-written bundle. Solution: redeploy, contact support if it persists. ## Additional context Both codes are real and currently emitted by `supabase/edge-functions-ingress` (`main`): - `NOT_FOUND_FUNCTION_BLOB` — 404, declared at `src/main/errors.ts:29`, emitted at `src/main/cache.ts:180` - `LOAD_FUNCTION_UNBUNDLING_ERROR` — 503, declared at `src/main/errors.ts:27`, emitted at `src/main/cache.ts:226` Both were introduced by supabase/edge-functions-ingress#464. ### Notes for reviewer - **Scope.** The comment on #47739 asked only for `NOT_FOUND_FUNCTION_BLOB`. `LOAD_FUNCTION_UNBUNDLING_ERROR` is included because it shipped in the same ingress PR and is equally undocumented — happy to drop it if you'd rather keep this PR to exactly what was requested. - **No HTTP statuses in the copy.** The 404/503 above are deliberately left out of the page text, because the Error codes page states no HTTP status anywhere for any code. Adding them here would be a format departure. Easy to add if you'd prefer to start including them. - **Message mismatch, not fixed here.** `apps/docs/content/troubleshooting/edge-function-404-error-response.mdx` declares `message = "Function deployment bundle not found"` for `NOT_FOUND_FUNCTION_BLOB`, but the runtime actually emits `"Requested function was not found"` (`cache.ts:181`), which matches the response pasted in #47739. Left untouched in this PR — flagging it for a follow-up. ### Checks run - `prettier --check` on the changed file: passes. - `supa-mdx-lint` (v0.3.2) on the changed file: no new findings. The one remaining warning (`error-codes.mdx:11` — "Use 'view and resolve errors' instead of 'handle errors'") is pre-existing on `master` and untouched here. - The `{/* supa-mdx-lint-disable Rule001HeadingCase */}` pragma at line 8 sits above both new H3s, so the uppercase headings pass. --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code/session_01Qw5D2wdScBN5TWuA2FgnDW)_ --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> |

docs: add eu-central-2 to Edge Functions regional invocation page (#48721)
<!-- ccr-slack-attribution --> _Requested by **Kalleby Santos** · [Slack thread](https://supabase.slack.com/archives/C02KMRX22NR/p1785871243937099?thread_ts=1785871243.937099&cid=C02KMRX22NR)_ ## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## What kind of change does this PR introduce? Docs update — one-line content fix. ## What is the current behavior? The [Regional Invocations](https://supabase.com/docs/guides/functions/regional-invocation) page's "Available regions" section lists every Edge Functions region **except `eu-central-2`** (AWS Europe, Zurich). The region has been live in production for a while, but it was never added to the docs. A user reading this page to pick a region for `x-region` / `FunctionRegion` had no way to know Zurich was an option — the page reads as an exhaustive list, so the omission actively implies the region doesn't exist. Reported by Kalleby Santos (Edge Functions team). Linear: [FUNC-761 — Add eu-central-2 to regional invocation docs page](https://linear.app/supabase/issue/FUNC-761/add-eu-central-2-to-regional-invocation-docs-page) ## What is the new behavior? **Before:** the Europe group listed `eu-central-1`, `eu-west-1`, `eu-west-2`, `eu-west-3`. **After:** `eu-central-2` (Zurich) is listed alongside the others, so the page reflects the regions Edge Functions actually serves. ### How One line added to `apps/docs/content/guides/functions/regional-invocation.mdx`, in the **Europe** group directly after `eu-central-1`, following the list's existing sort-by-region-code order and the surrounding `` `code` (Short location) `` label style: ```diff **Europe:** - `eu-central-1` (Frankfurt) +- `eu-central-2` (Zurich) - `eu-west-1` (Ireland) - `eu-west-2` (London) - `eu-west-3` (Paris) ``` No other files changed. This page's region list is hand-maintained in the MDX and is deliberately narrower than the project-creation region list in `packages/shared-data/regions.ts` (which also includes `us-east-2` and `eu-north-1`), so no shared constant needed updating and no other product's region list was touched. ## Additional context **Verification that `eu-central-2` is a real Edge Functions invocation region** — confirmed in three independent places: 1. `supabase/platform` → `pulumi/edge-runtime/Pulumi.prod.yaml:533` — `region: eu-central-2`, with `enabled: true` at `:531`. A fully provisioned prod region (360–540 always-on tasks), not a placeholder. Branch `develop`, HEAD `1f44167768f951c0c794313006bc2c9f9758c344`. 2. `supabase/platform` → `pulumi/edge-runtime-next/stack-config/Pulumi.prod.aws.euc2.yaml:6` — `aws:region: eu-central-2` under the `Edge-Functions/K8s-Prod` environment, tagged `product: functions`. 3. `supabase/api-gateway` → `customer-router/wrangler.toml` — `eu-central-2` is present in the `EDGE_FUNCTIONS_REGIONAL_ORIGINS` map (`eu-central-2 = "https://eu-central-2.edge-runtime.supabase.green"`). This is the table that resolves the `x-region` header, so regional invocation into Zurich is genuinely routable — not just deployed. **For a reviewer to confirm separately (intentionally not in this diff):** production infra has 16 enabled Edge Functions regions, so `us-east-2` (Ohio, `pulumi/edge-runtime/Pulumi.prod.yaml:507`, `enabled: true`) is *also* missing from this page. It's excluded here because we don't yet know whether that omission is deliberate; it's being confirmed with the team and can be a follow-up. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) https://claude.ai/code/session_017UJhSvVpPfYNaHZ8Y1x3sy --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code/session_017UJhSvVpPfYNaHZ8Y1x3sy)_ Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(docs): fix heading-order skips in guide and troubleshooting content (#48459)
Closes DOCS-1260 _See WAVE plugin no longer flags a jump in header hierarchy. Preview on left._ <img width="708" height="699" alt="Screenshot 2026-07-29 at 2 30 11 PM" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/be5bf335-9e03-474f-8215-06fa505ab2db" /> ## Problem Beyond the 4 shared components fixed in [#48456](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/pull/48456), the [header hierarchy report](https://app.notion.com/p/supabase/Playwright-E2E-Triage-Reports-3ab5004b775f81e3bc60d058fa5a02c1) found plain content headings that skip a level. For example, you may see a `##` followed directly by an `####`. Jumps in headers breaks page navigation for screen reader users, who jump between headings expecting each level to nest one at a time. ## Solution Adjusted heading levels across the affected guide and troubleshooting pages so every section nests correctly, with no skipped levels. **Staging previews:** | Page | Preview | | --- | --- | | `/guides/api/rest/postgrest-error-codes` | fix(docs) Resolve local link paths caused that have redirects (#48453)
## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## Problem The Docs E2E link checker found broken links throughout docs, starting with `phone-login.mdx` pointing to `/docs/guides/cli/config` (404). Old links like `/docs/guides/cli/config` still work on the live site because `supabase.com` has redirects set up for them, but these links break on the docs preview site, which is what the E2E check tests against. These issues look clean on the live site, and I didn't catch them in my first pass because I was testing production instead of the preview. The E2E check only tests the ~20 pages a given PR happens to touch, so fixing the pages it flagged kept exposing more of the same problem one page at a time as each fix pulled in a new file. To stop chasing this incrementally, I cross-referenced every `/docs/guides/*` and `/docs/reference/*` redirect source in `apps/www/lib/redirects.js` against actual usage across all of `apps/docs`, and verified each candidate against the live preview. ## Solution Rather than updating the Docs E2E link checker, this PR resolves the links. **Why:** we own these docs, so keeping the links clean without redirects is keeping the house maintained. See [Broken Window Theory](https://blog.codinghorror.com/the-broken-window-theory/). Updated every link still using an old path to point straight at the current page instead of relying on a redirect. This covers old links like: - `/docs/guides/cli/config` → `/docs/guides/local-development/cli/config` - `/docs/guides/cli/getting-started` → `/docs/guides/local-development/cli/getting-started` - `/docs/guides/cli/local-development` → `/docs/guides/local-development/database-migrations` - `/docs/guides/cli/managing-environments` → `/docs/guides/deployment/managing-environments` - `/docs/guides/cli/seeding-your-database` → `/docs/guides/local-development/seeding-your-database` - bare `/docs/guides/cli` → `/docs/guides/local-development` - `/docs/guides/platform/compute-add-ons` → `/docs/guides/platform/compute-and-disk` - `/docs/guides/platform/shared-responsibility-model` → `/docs/guides/deployment/shared-responsibility-model` - `/docs/guides/database` → `/docs/guides/database/overview` - `/docs/reference/javascript`, `/docs/reference/dart`, `/docs/reference/kotlin`, `/docs/reference/python`, `/docs/reference/csharp` → their `/introduction` pages (the redirect's own destination, `/start`, turned out to be dead even on production — a separate bug in `redirects.js` I didn't touch here) - and about 35 more of the same pattern, listed in the commit messages Also fixed a handful of dead heading anchors found along the way (links that resolve to the right page but point at a `#section` that got renamed or moved), including the original `#bigquery` anchor and a few in `connecting-to-postgres.mdx` where content moved to its own dedicated page. Left alone on purpose: - `content/guides/cli.mdx` — this page has no route in the docs app at all (no `app/guides/cli/` directory), so it 404s even in production before the `www` redirect ever fires. Fixing its internal link wouldn't change that; it needs an actual routing/content decision, not a link fix. - A few candidates that already resolve fine as-is (`pg_partman`, bare `/docs/reference/api`, bare `/docs/reference/cli`) — confirmed via curl, left untouched. ## Manual testing 1. Confirmed every new link target actually exists by checking the destination file/page and matching heading anchors. 2. Cross-referenced every `/docs/guides/*` and `/docs/reference/*` redirect source in `apps/www/lib/redirects.js` against real usage in `apps/docs`, and curl-verified each old path (404) and new path (200) against the live PR preview before fixing it. 3. Ran the Docs E2E link checker locally against changed pages. 4. Spot-checked the original broken link from CI (`/docs/guides/cli/config`) to confirm it now points to a working page. |

chore(ui): Remove 'tip' from Admonition (#48419)
Closes FE-3966 ## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## Problem - The admonition uses both 'tip' and 'note', but the visual distinction has long-ago collapsed. - 'Note' is used far more frequently than 'tip' - The two are very similar and it is confusing to know which one to use when they are visually identical ## Solution Collapse 'tip' and 'note' into one by removing all places where there is 'tip' and updating all references to 'tip' into 'note'. **Note:** This PR also resolves new broken links flagged by the E2E docs checker. It may move to another PR since E2Es keep erroring. ### Specific changes See below for an AI-generated list of changes: - **Type system** — removed `'tip'` from `AdmonitionType`, its `TYPE_TO_VARIANT`/`TYPE_LABEL` entries, and the test case in [`packages/ui-patterns/src/Admonition/](packages/ui-patterns/src/Admonition/) - **Remark plugin** — [remarkAdmonition.ts](apps/docs/lib/mdx/plugins/remarkAdmonition.ts) now maps mkdocs `tip` → `note` - **Lint allowlist** — `tip` dropped from `supa-mdx-lint.config.toml` - **Content migration** — all 109 files with `type="tip"` (across `apps/docs`, `apps/www`, `apps/studio`) converted to `type="note"`; zero remaining hits confirmed by repo-wide grep - **Style guide** — `CONTRIBUTING.md` and `contributing/content.mdx` updated to describe 4 admonition types instead of 5 ### Usage before implementation See the usage table that points toward 'note' as being dominant across all apps: Here's the usage table: | Location | `note` | `tip` | |---|---|---| | apps/docs | ~480 | ~143 | | apps/studio | 34 | 6 | | apps/www (blog) | 19 | 3 | | packages/ui-patterns (tests) | 3 | 1 (parametrized) | | design-system / ui-library / packages/ui / packages/common | 0–1 (test fixture only) | 0 | ## Preview links | App | Page | Search text (Ctrl+F) | Verify | |---|---|---|---| | docs | [/docs/guides/ai-tools/byo-mcp](https://docs-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/docs/guides/ai-tools/byo-mcp) | official MCP TypeScript SDK | callout's aria-label="Note" | | docs | [/docs/guides/ai-tools/mcp](https://docs-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/docs/guides/ai-tools/mcp) | MCP server is available at | callout's aria-label="Note" | | docs | [/docs/guides/ai/python-clients](https://docs-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/docs/guides/ai/python-clients) | Click Connect at the top of any project page | callout's aria-label="Note" | | docs | [/docs/guides/auth/audit-logs](https://docs-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/docs/guides/auth/audit-logs) | Disabling Postgres storage reduces your database storage costs | callout's aria-label="Note" | | docs | [/docs/guides/database/tables](https://docs-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/docs/guides/database/tables) | access a custom schema through the Supabase Data API | callout's aria-label="Note" | | docs | [/docs/guides/troubleshooting/edge-function-404-error-response](https://docs-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/docs/guides/troubleshooting/edge-function-404-error-response) | Always configure an appropriate time frame | callout's aria-label="Note" (was single-quoted type='tip') | | www | [blog: cli-v2-config-as-code](https://zone-www-dot-com-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/blog/cli-v2-config-as-code) | Detecting config drift | callout's aria-label="Note" | | www | [blog: cli-v2-config-as-code](https://zone-www-dot-com-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/blog/cli-v2-config-as-code) | Setting Edge Function secrets | callout's aria-label="Note" | | www | [blog: nosql-mongodb-compatibility-with-ferretdb-and-flydotio](https://zone-www-dot-com-git-admonition-collapse-note-tip-supabase.vercel.app/blog/nosql-mongodb-compatibility-with-ferretdb-and-flydotio) | If your network supports IPv6 connections | callout's aria-label="Note" | Note: the `www` rows use the `zone-www-dot-com` preview host, not the `docs` one you gave — since blog pages are served from the www app, not docs. ## Manual testing 1. docs: clarify edge function deployment size limits (5MB server-side vs 20MB local) (#47941)
<!-- ccr-slack-attribution --> _Requested by **Lakshan Perera** · [Slack thread](https://supabase.slack.com/archives/C023E4L60R3/p1784055775538959?thread_ts=1784055775.538959&cid=C023E4L60R3)_ ## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## What kind of change does this PR introduce? Docs update. ## What is the current behavior? Both the "Edge Function bundle size issues" troubleshooting page and the Edge Functions "Limits" page stated only a single **20 MB** limit. In practice, that 20 MB figure applies only to **local bundling** with the Supabase CLI. When a function is deployed via the **Management API or Dashboard**, bundling runs server-side and is capped at **5 MB** due to an infrastructure (Lambda) limit. Customers deploying that way were surprised to hit an error like `Function source code exceeds the maximum deployment size (5 MB). Reduce the size of your function and try again.` even though the docs implied 20 MB was available. ## What is the new behavior? Both pages now state the distinction explicitly: - **Local bundling (Supabase CLI):** up to **20 MB**. - **Server-side bundling (Management API or Dashboard):** up to **5 MB**. The troubleshooting page also adds a "Deploying larger functions" section pointing customers at the workaround: if a function is under 20 MB but over the 5 MB server-side limit, bundle it locally by running `supabase functions deploy` with the `--use-docker` flag to force local bundling and get the higher limit. ## Additional context **How / files changed:** - `apps/docs/content/troubleshooting/edge-function-bundle-size-issues.mdx` — rewrote the intro to describe both limits, added the "Deploying larger functions" workaround section, and fixed the frontmatter `keywords` (replaced `"10MB"` with `"5MB"` and `"20MB"`). - `apps/docs/content/guides/functions/limits.mdx` — updated the "Maximum Function Size" line to list both the 20 MB local and 5 MB server-side limits. Before, both pages said only 20 MB, so customers deploying via the API/Dashboard were surprised by a 5 MB error; after, both pages state the 5 MB server-side vs 20 MB local distinction and point to local bundling as the workaround. --- _Generated by [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code/session_019bBXmQTRBWJbo3UTpfjPLU)_ Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(docs): CLI command flag ordering in documentation (#47505)
## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## What kind of change does this PR introduce? Docs update ## What is the current behavior? Documentation examples show CLI commands with inconsistent flag ordering, where `--project-ref` and other flags appear before subcommands, which doesn't match the actual CLI syntax. ## What is the new behavior? Updated all CLI command examples to use the correct flag ordering where: - The main command comes first - Subcommands follow - Flags come after subcommands Examples updated: - `supabase ssl-enforcement get --project-ref {ref} --experimental` - `supabase secrets set SLACK_TOKEN=... --project-ref nacho_slacker` - `supabase postgres-config update --project-ref <project-ref> --experimental` - `supabase inspect db bloat --db-url postgresql://...` - `supabase vanity-subdomains activate --project-ref abcdefghijklmnopqrst --desired-subdomain my-example-brand --experimental` ## Additional context These changes ensure that documentation examples accurately reflect the actual CLI syntax and will help users avoid command errors when following the guides. https://claude.ai/code/session_01WMx8BBuCJwZfrN1RJhY2Fq <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Documentation** * Updated multiple CLI examples across database, functions, and platform guides to use consistent, current argument ordering. * Refreshed guidance and examples for Postgres configuration management, database bloat inspection, setting Edge Function secrets, vanity subdomain availability/activation, and SSL enforcement. * No product behavior changed—these updates improve the accuracy and reliability of the documented commands. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(docs) Resolve 196 mdx lint warnings for just, quickly, actually, PostgreSQL (#47358)
Closes DOCS-1057 Contributes to DOCS-1052 ## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## Problem We have hundreds of MDX lint warnings in our docs going against style best practices. ## Solution Remove and replace in context the following: - PostgreSQL. There was only one. There was concern about exceptions, but I found none. - Just - Quickly - Actually ### What changed Edits follow the [Google developer documentation style guide](https://developers.google.com/style): concise, direct, active voice. The flagged words were removed when the sentence still read well, or replaced when meaning needed to be preserved. ### Common patterns | Flagged word | Approach | Example | |---|---|---| | **just** (filler) | Removed | "you just installed" → "you installed" | | **just** (limiting) | **only** | "just one row" → "only one row" | | **just like** | **like** / **the same as** | "function just like regular users" → "function like regular users" | | **not just** | **not only** | "not just errors" → "not only errors" | | **quickly** (performance) | **efficiently** or removed | "find rows quickly" → "find rows efficiently" | | **quickly** (time) | **soon** / **rapidly** / removed | "expires too quickly" → "expires too soon" | | **actually** (filler) | Removed | "actually execute" → "execute"; "is actually the most common" → "is the most common" | ## Tophatting 1. See the diff. 2. See that content continues to make sense in context. 3. Locally, `cd apps/docs` and run `pnpm run lint:mdx`. 4. fix(docs): use proper apikey instead of Authorization header for Functions examples (#46013)
## Problem
The Supabase Functions documentation shows examples that send a
publishable key in the `Authorization: Bearer` header. This causes
`UNAUTHORIZED_INVALID_JWT_FORMAT` errors because publishable keys are
not JWTs.
Per the [Understanding authorization
headers](/docs/guides/functions/auth#understanding-authorization-headers)
guide:
> A common mistake is sending a publishable or secret key as a bearer
token: `Authorization: Bearer sb_pub.....`. The new API keys are not
JWTs. The platform check can't validate them, and your handler can't
verify them as JWTs either. Instead, put API keys in the `apikey`
header.
## Fix
Updated three documentation files to use the `apikey` header instead of
`Authorization: Bearer` when calling Edge Functions with a publishable
key:
- **quickstart-dashboard.mdx**: Changed fetch example from
`Authorization: 'Bearer YOUR_PUBLISHABLE_KEY'` to `apikey:
'<SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY>'`
- **recursive-functions.mdx**: Changed fetch example from
`Authorization: \`Bearer ${SUPABASE_DEFAULT_PUBLISHABLE_KEY}\`` to
`apikey: SUPABASE_DEFAULT_PUBLISHABLE_KEY`
- **schedule-functions.mdx**: Changed SQL cron example from
`'Authorization', 'Bearer ' || ...` to `'apikey', ...`

docs: migrate Edge Functions guides to @supabase/server (COM-269) (#46656)
## What Migrates the Edge Functions **documentation** from the legacy `Deno.serve` + manual `createClient` pattern to the [`@supabase/server`](https://github.com/supabase/server) `withSupabase` wrapper. This is the part of [COM-269](https://linear.app/supabase/issue/COM-269) that AI coding assistants index, so it's split out to ship first; the standalone `examples/` functions follow in a second PR. ## Canonical pattern ```ts import { withSupabase } from 'npm:@supabase/server@1' export default { fetch: withSupabase({ auth: 'user' }, async (req, ctx) => { const { data } = await ctx.supabase.from('countries').select('*') return Response.json({ data }) }), } ``` - `export default { fetch }` object shape (not `Deno.serve`, not a bare default export), versioned `npm:@supabase/server@1`. - `auth` mode picks the caller: `user` → `ctx.supabase` (RLS); `secret`/`publishable`/`none` → set `verify_jwt = false`, `secret` uses `ctx.supabaseAdmin`. - `Response.json(...)` over `new Response(JSON.stringify(...))`. ## Changes - **AI prompt** (`examples/prompts/edge-functions.md`) — rewritten to lead with `withSupabase` as the default; `auth`-mode table; `@supabase/server@1`. Highest AI-indexing impact. - **connect-to-postgres** — "Using supabase-js" now uses `ctx.supabase` (+ its CodeSample deps `postgres-on-the-edge`, `drizzle`). - **Example pages** — semantic-search, push-notifications, amazon-bedrock, cloudflare-turnstile, og-image, send-emails, slack-bot-mention, auth-send-email-hook. - **Guides** — ai-models, background-tasks, routing (+ `restful-tasks` dep), kysely-postgres, sentry-monitoring, upstash-redis, elevenlabs ×2, websockets, cors (reframed: CORS is automatic with `withSupabase`). ## Notable fixes - **websockets**: the JWT-auth examples had a latent bug — handler wasn't `async` and called `getClaims()` without the extracted token. Now `await supabase.auth.getUser(jwt)`. (`withSupabase` can't authenticate WebSocket clients since they can't send headers — noted in the page.) - **restful-tasks**: fixed a broken `npm:supabase-js` import → `npm:@supabase/supabase-js`. ## Follow-ups (not in this PR) - The ~42 standalone `examples/` edge functions → second PR. - A dedicated `withSupabase` intro page (today it's only documented inside the auth-framed "Securing Edge Functions" page). - `.claude/skills/supabase-server/SKILL.md` is stale (`allow:` vs `auth:`). <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Documentation** * Updated Edge Function examples to the modern withSupabase + exported fetch handler pattern across guides and examples. * Standardized JSON response/error handling (uses built-in JSON helpers) and preserved streaming/SSE behaviors where applicable. * Clarified auth modes, context clients (user vs admin), and automatic CORS handling; removed manual preflight boilerplate. * Updated local serve/deploy instructions to include --no-verify-jwt for relevant examples. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> |

fix(examples): read new API keys directly from parsed SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS (#46604)
## Problem
Edge Function examples that use the new publishable/secret API keys read
them with a double lookup:
```ts
const SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS = JSON.parse(Deno.env.get('SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS')!)
const secretKey = Deno.env.get(SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS['default']) // ❌ returns undefined
```
`SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS` / `SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEYS` are a JSON object
that maps a key name to the **actual key value** (e.g.
`{"default":"sb_secret_..."}`), confirmed by:
- the self-hosted injection in `docker/docker-compose.yml`
(`SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS: "{\"default\":\"${SUPABASE_SECRET_KEY:-}\"}"`)
- the `@supabase/server` SDK README
So `SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS['default']` is already the key. Wrapping it in
another `Deno.env.get(...)` looks up an env var named `sb_secret_...`,
which doesn't exist, so the value is `undefined` and the examples fail
at runtime.
## Fix
Unwrap the outer `Deno.env.get(...)` so the key is read directly:
```ts
const SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS = JSON.parse(Deno.env.get('SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS')!)
const secretKey = SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS['default'] // ✅
```
Applied across 23 files (example functions, the
`examples/prompts/edge-functions.md` codegen guidance, and two docs
guides). The correct `JSON.parse(Deno.env.get('SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS')!)`
declaration line is untouched. The generated `apps/docs/examples/` copy
regenerates from `examples/` at build time.
## Notes
- Docs context:
[#46600](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/pull/46600), which
documents the same key model.
- Follow-up (not in this PR): a few examples send the secret key on the
`Authorization: Bearer` header, which the new keys reject. Worth a
separate audit.

## Summary by CodeRabbit
* **Documentation**
* Clarified examples and guides for correctly reading parsed Supabase
secret and publishable key maps.
* **Examples**
* Standardized credential usage across Edge Functions and samples so
Supabase clients consistently receive keys from the parsed key maps
rather than indirect lookups.

docs: rewrite Securing Edge Functions guide around @supabase/server (#45959)
## I have read the [CONTRIBUTING.md](https://github.com/supabase/supabase/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) file. YES ## What kind of change does this PR introduce? Docs update. ## What is the current behavior? The "Securing Edge Functions" guide (`/docs/guides/functions/auth`) opens with two conceptual sections — "Understanding authorization headers" and "The `verify_jwt` platform check" — followed by a "Common auth patterns" section that re-implements the same four use cases twice: once without an SDK using `Deno.serve` + manual `createClient` + manual `Authorization` header forwarding, and again using `@supabase/server`. The recommended path is buried below background reading and a legacy-style implementation. Linear: COM-235. ## What is the new behavior? The guide now leads with practical how-tos built on `@supabase/server`: - Authenticated user calls (`auth: 'user'`) - Service-to-service calls (`auth: 'secret'`) - Public functions (`auth: 'none'`) - External webhooks (`auth: 'none'` + signature verification) - Combining modes - Custom error responses - Environment variables The two conceptual sections are extracted into a new sibling page at `/docs/guides/functions/auth-headers` ("Authorization headers"), linked from the top of the how-to page and added to the side nav between "Securing your functions" and "Legacy JWT secret". The legacy SDK-less examples are removed. The mode table uses the unnamed forms (`'secret'`, `'publishable'`), and a note in the service-to-service section introduces the `'secret:<name>'` / `'publishable:<name>'` syntax for callers that want to scope to a specific named key. ## Additional context Each section preserves the "who calls this and why" framing from the original (cron jobs, workers, and `pg_net` for service-to-service; `supabase.functions.invoke` for authenticated user calls; signed webhook providers for external webhooks). <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Documentation** * Added a new guide explaining Edge Functions authentication headers, JWT validation, and API key handling * Redesigned core authentication guide to focus on the primary wrapper approach with clearer examples and common scenarios * Improved navigation and added redirects to make authentication docs easier to find and access <!-- review_stack_entry_start --> [](https://app.coderabbit.ai/change-stack/supabase/supabase/pull/45959?utm_source=github_walkthrough&utm_medium=github&utm_campaign=change_stack) <!-- review_stack_entry_end --> <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> --------- Co-authored-by: Chris Chinchilla <chris.ward@supabase.io> |

It also standardizes the example strings to be: `'https://your-project-id.supabase.co'` and `'sb_publishable_...'` for consistency. <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Documentation** * Standardized client initialization examples to use a consistent publishable-key placeholder (`sb_publishable_...`) and full project URL format. * Replaced "anon key" wording with "publishable key" across auth and API guides and examples. * Minor formatting and import-order/whitespace improvements in code samples for clarity and consistency. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> |
