Deepak Thorat 2dd956b8ad docs(infra): fix AGENTS.md root setup guidance and package doc accuracy (#40794)
Closes #40793

---

Docs-only repair from a full audit of developer-facing markdown against
the repository as source of truth. A new contributor following
`AGENTS.md` from the repo root currently hits missing files and commands
that cannot run; package docs and a workflow comment also drift from
reality.

**What was wrong**

- `AGENTS.md` listed root-level `pyproject.toml`, `uv.lock`, and
`Makefile` as key config files — none exist at the repo root (config is
per package under `libs/*/`).
- Setup/test/lint examples (`uv sync --all-groups`, `make test` / `lint`
/ `format`) had no working directory, so they fail if copy-pasted from
the root.
- The monorepo structure tree omitted `openwiki/` and `AGENTS.md`.
- `libs/README.md` omitted the `model-profiles/` package from its
directory list.
- Root `README.md` linked Deep Agents with `http://` while every other
docs link uses `https://`.
- The PR-title paragraph claimed scopes are mandatory “with no
exceptions”, but `pr_lint.yml` sets `requireScope: false` (only empty
`type():` parens are rejected).
- Grammar (“require” → “requires”), an unfinished editable-installs
sentence, incomplete `pr_lint.yml` scope comment (missing `openrouter`,
`typesafe`), and a stale `make help` line pointing at a non-existent
top-level Makefile.

**What changed**

- Clarified per-package config layout and required `cd` into
`libs/<package>` before `uv` / `make` commands.
- Completed the structure diagram; added `model-profiles/` to
`libs/README.md`.
- Switched Deep Agents links to `https://`.
- Aligned the scope guidance with actual CI behavior (documented, did
not change `requireScope`).
- Tightened the `pr_lint.yml` comment and removed the dead Makefile help
line.

No runtime code, tests, or CI logic changed — comments and markdown
only.

AI assistance was used to prepare this change; I reviewed the diff
against the repository layout.

be IGNORED or CLOSED!

Thank you for contributing to LangChain! Follow these steps to have your
pull request considered as ready for review.

1. PR title: Should follow the format: TYPE(SCOPE): DESCRIPTION

  - Examples:
    - fix(anthropic): resolve flag parsing error
    - feat(core): add multi-tenant support
    - test(openai): update API usage tests
- Allowed TYPE and SCOPE values:
https://github.com/langchain-ai/langchain/blob/master/.github/workflows/pr_lint.yml#L15-L33

2. PR description:

- Write 1-2 sentences that make the change easy to understand: who
benefits, what problem they had, and how this solves it. Prefer a simple
user story over a long summary.
- The `Fixes #xx` line at the top is **required** for external
contributions — update the issue number and keep the keyword. This links
your PR to the approved issue and auto-closes it on merge.
  - If there are any breaking changes, please clearly describe them.
- If this PR depends on another PR being merged first, please include
"Depends on #PR_NUMBER" in the description.

## Release note

3. Run `make format`, `make lint` and `make test` from the root of the
package(s) you've modified.

  - We will not consider a PR unless these three are passing in CI.

4. How did you verify your code works?

Additional guidelines:

- All external PRs must link to an issue or discussion where a solution
has been approved by a maintainer, and you must be assigned to that
issue. PRs without prior approval will be closed.
- PRs should not touch more than one package unless absolutely
necessary.
- Do not update the `uv.lock` files or add dependencies to
`pyproject.toml` files (even optional ones) unless you have explicit
permission to do so by a maintainer.

Mason Daugherty 63cc1f4e7d docs: refresh README installation and resources (#38119)
README installation examples now use `uv add` consistently, matching the
repo's `uv`-based Python workflow. The top-level README also gets a
cleaner quickstart and resource section with current links for docs,
community, learning, and contribution guidance.

## Changes
- Replaced `pip install` snippets with `uv add` across package quick
install docs, including the Hugging Face extras and
`sentence-transformers` upgrade examples.
- Updated the top-level quickstart to show only `uv add langchain` and
refreshed the example model to `openai:gpt-5.5`.
- Pointed the LangGraph orchestration link at the LangGraph GitHub
repository.
- Consolidated top-level documentation and additional-resource links
under a single `Resources` section covering docs, ecosystem overview,
API reference, discussions, Academy, contributing, and the Code of
Conduct.
- Added LangChain Academy and Code of Conduct links to package README
resource sections.

54542b9385 docs(openai): add comprehensive documentation and examples for extra_body + others (#32149)
This PR addresses the common issue where users struggle to pass custom
parameters to OpenAI-compatible APIs like LM Studio, vLLM, and others.
The problem occurs when users try to use `model_kwargs` for custom
parameters, which causes API errors.

## Problem

Users attempting to pass custom parameters (like LM Studio's `ttl`
parameter) were getting errors:

```python
# ❌ This approach fails
llm = ChatOpenAI(
    base_url="http://localhost:1234/v1",
    model="mlx-community/QwQ-32B-4bit",
    model_kwargs={"ttl": 5}  # Causes TypeError: unexpected keyword argument 'ttl'
)
```

## Solution

The `extra_body` parameter is the correct way to pass custom parameters
to OpenAI-compatible APIs:

```python
# ✅ This approach works correctly
llm = ChatOpenAI(
    base_url="http://localhost:1234/v1",
    model="mlx-community/QwQ-32B-4bit",
    extra_body={"ttl": 5}  # Custom parameters go in extra_body
)
```

## Changes Made

1. **Enhanced Documentation**: Updated the `extra_body` parameter
docstring with comprehensive examples for LM Studio, vLLM, and other
providers

2. **Added Documentation Section**: Created a new "OpenAI-compatible
APIs" section in the main class docstring with practical examples

3. **Unit Tests**: Added tests to verify `extra_body` functionality
works correctly:
- `test_extra_body_parameter()`: Verifies custom parameters are included
in request payload
- `test_extra_body_with_model_kwargs()`: Ensures `extra_body` and
`model_kwargs` work together

4. **Clear Guidance**: Documented when to use `extra_body` vs
`model_kwargs`

## Examples Added

**LM Studio with TTL (auto-eviction):**
```python
ChatOpenAI(
    base_url="http://localhost:1234/v1",
    api_key="lm-studio",
    model="mlx-community/QwQ-32B-4bit",
    extra_body={"ttl": 300}  # Auto-evict after 5 minutes
)
```

**vLLM with custom sampling:**
```python
ChatOpenAI(
    base_url="http://localhost:8000/v1",
    api_key="EMPTY",
    model="meta-llama/Llama-2-7b-chat-hf",
    extra_body={
        "use_beam_search": True,
        "best_of": 4
    }
)
```

## Why This Works

- `model_kwargs` parameters are passed directly to the OpenAI client's
`create()` method, causing errors for non-standard parameters
- `extra_body` parameters are included in the HTTP request body, which
is exactly what OpenAI-compatible APIs expect for custom parameters

Fixes #32115.

Sydney Runkle 78ec7d886d [performance]: Adding benchmarks for common langchain-core imports (#30747)
The first in a sequence of PRs focusing on improving performance in
core. We're starting with reducing import times for common structures,
hence the benchmarks here.

The benchmark looks a little bit complicated - we have to use a process
so that we don't suffer from Python's import caching system. I tried
doing manual modification of `sys.modules` between runs, but that's
pretty tricky / hacky to get right, hence the subprocess approach.

Motivated by extremely slow baseline for common imports (we're talking
2-5 seconds):

<img width="633" alt="Screenshot 2025-04-09 at 12 48 12 PM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/994616fe-1798-404d-bcbe-48ad0eb8a9a0"
/>

Also added a `make benchmark` command to make local runs easy :).
Currently using walltimes so that we can track total time despite using
a manual proces.
